Tour Overview
This 11-day round-trip is built for travelers who want more than a seat in a car for their Sahara tour. It opens with two nights in the Imlil valley at the foot of Mount Toubkal, where a full day is set aside for a genuine guided hike through Berber villages and walnut groves, before joining the classic desert route through Ouarzazate, Ait Ben Haddou, and Merzouga.
The pace is active but not extreme: the mountain section requires reasonable fitness rather than technical climbing experience, and the desert days follow the same well-tested route as our other Sahara tours. It’s the itinerary we recommend to travelers who want both mountains and dunes in one trip, without adding the extra length of a full grand tour.

Itinerary
Arrival in Marrakech
Arrive in Marrakech and transfer to your riad. Evening at leisure, with an optional introductory walk to the nearby Jemaa el-Fnaa square.
Marrakech to Imlil
Drive an hour into the High Atlas to Imlil, gateway village to Mount Toubkal, North Africa's highest peak. Settle into a mountain guesthouse with valley views.
Imlil Valley Hike
A full day guided hike through the Imlil valley, passing walnut groves and terraced Berber villages, with a stop to visit a local family home and share traditional mint tea.
Imlil to Ouarzazate via Ait Ben Haddou
Descend from the mountains and cross the Tizi n'Tichka pass toward Ouarzazate, stopping at the UNESCO-listed Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou along the way.
Ouarzazate to Dades Valley
Visit the Atlas Film Studios before continuing along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs to the rugged Dades Valley for the night.
Dades to Merzouga via Todra Gorges
Walk through the dramatic Todra Gorges, where cliffs rise 300 meters above a narrow riverbed, before continuing to Merzouga in time for a sunset camel trek into the Erg Chebbi dunes.
Merzouga Desert Day
Rise for a desert sunrise, then spend the day visiting nomadic families and the Gnaoua music village of Khamlia, with time to try sandboarding on the dunes.
Merzouga to Ouarzazate via the Draa Valley
Drive south through Rissani and the palm-lined Draa Valley before turning north again to Ouarzazate for the night.
Ouarzazate to Marrakech
Cross the High Atlas via the Tizi n'Tichka pass once more, with stops at scenic viewpoints, arriving back in Marrakech by early afternoon.
Guided Tour of Marrakech
Explore the Bahia Palace, the Saadian Tombs, and the Koutoubia Mosque with a local guide, before wandering the souks and Jemaa el-Fnaa square at dusk.
Departure from Marrakech
Transfer to Marrakech Menara Airport for your onward flight.
